Join us for an exciting in-person event where renowned designer Abiola Onabule will be conducting a masterclass on Adire. This event is perfect for anyone interested in learning about the fascinating process of indigo textiles.

During the masterclass, Abiola will provide an introduction to Adire, sharing techniques and meanings ingrained into adire cloth made by Yoruba dyers in South Western Nigeria. As well as learning the practical techniques, participants have the opportunity to hear more about Nigerian textile heritage, discussing ideas around cultural narratives woven within cloth.

Abiola Onabule is one of the 2020 Designers in Residence. She is a designer, with a Masters in Womenswear from Central Saint Martins. Her work draws inspiration from her cultural heritage, through silhouette and explorations into fabrics steeped in Nigerian textile culture, investigated in a present-day context.

Each participant will design their own fabric, and plan their design.
